Why should I care?
If that's not enough of a reason...
What is the difference between you and an undocumented immigrant? The answer is, not much.
Say ICE suspected you of being an undocumented immigrant: do you carry your birth certificate with you? Do you have a REAL ID or other federally recognized identification? If the answer is no, you have a very real chance of being illegally detained by ICE indefinitely.
And, even if the answer is yes, you may still be detained. This has already happened to a US Veteran.
Is it really that bad?
ICE has a quota
3,000 detained people a day. Not illegal immigrants, not expired visa holders - people. That could include you, your family, and your neighbors.
From "Alligator Alcatraz" to CECOT, concentration camps for undocumented migrants is becoming the norm.
A recent ruling allowed for incarceration without bond (bail). That means anyone accused of illegal immigration can be held as long as it takes to try them.
